Young Playwrights Project
ATC's annual Young Playwrights Project is for Middle and High School Students anywhere, but we especially would like to read scripts from NJ teens!
Our youngest winner had just entered Middle School. She was 10! So age is not necessarily a factor.
2019: brave new world
ATC is now accepting SHORT (10 minutes or under), one-act scripts that reflect the theme “ Brave New World.” Students are encouraged to write from their own experience, their views of our rapidly changing world/society, etc. Teachers may wish to have students explore the passage from Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST, which then influenced Huxley’s novel , BRAVE NEW WORLD:
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world
That has such people in't!
It is NOT necessary that students be familiar with either classic. We look forward to reading their own interpretations of this provocative phrase.
Submissions may be sent directly to ATC by emailing as a .doc or .docx to firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline for submission is March 18, 2019. (We encourage as many students to enter as possible. Contact us if you need an extension of the date)
Scripts will be read and evaluated by professionals and teachers. From all submissions, 10-12 will be selected for public performance and cast and produced through ATC. The audience and a panel of “judges” composed of professional theater personnel, will select three to be featured on the internet: the chosen pieces could be seen around the world!
